We spent this holiday Monday going back and forth to the hospital. This morning, we had our first ultrasound, and we have a heartbeat – 124 beats per minute! Our little shrimp is measuring 6 weeks 1 day. The doctor didn’t seem at all concerned about it being a few days off from where I should be based on ovulation (6 weeks 5 days). He reluctantly told us that the gestational sac appeared a bit small. The ultrasound tech didn’t actually take any measurements of the gestational sac (I’m hoping that means it wasn’t small enough to raise a red flag for her). I have to go back in for another ultrasound in 3 weeks to make sure everything is progressing as it should.
We had our first prenatal appointment this evening. Everyone was so excited to see us; they couldn’t get over how big Henry is. We met with our favorite midwife, and she didn’t seemed phased by the gestational sac business.
Even though the ultrasound results are anxiety inducing, I feel so much better knowing that no matter what happens we have such a kind, loving, and supportive health care team. It also helps that we have a trip to Florida in two weeks to break up the time until the next ultrasound.
